Students with conditions such as ADHD and dyslexia know the frustration of wanting to succeed in school, but not having the skills necessary to do so. We find that when a student experiences prolonged and repeated failure in school, it can cause them to lose interest in school, blame their teachers, and even act out at home. It’s important to see these kinds of behaviors for what they are: the student’s self-defense response to struggle and failure.
Imagine the look in your child’s eyes when they realize for the first time that they can succeed like anyone else. That is the goal of our program. The approach we take to achieve this goal involves assessing your child’s abilities, obtaining information and feedback from other professionals involved in the student’s education, and creating a customized learning program. By taking the time to identify a student’s strengths and developing strategies that compensate for weaknesses, we can design a learning program for your special needs student that works.
This customized approach focuses on:
| • |
Building self-esteem |
| • |
Coaching self-management |
| • |
Introducing behavior modification
|
| • |
Developing coping strategies |
Perhaps your child has not been formally diagnosed with one of these conditions, but is experiencing learning difficulties that are worrisome to you. We can perform an assessment at the Center that will help pinpoint the source of the problem and alleviate your anxiety about the situation.
Is your child experiencing any of the following?
| • |
Difficulty focusing |
| • |
Tendency to day dream |
| • |
Problems staying on-task |
| • |
Boredom or disinterest |
| • |
Behavior conflicts with teachers |
| • |
Difficulty completing tasks |
| • |
Problems retaining information |
| • |
Confrontation at home |
These and other symptoms may point to a specific learning disability, or they may simply be a natural and temporary part of a child’s development.
Let our trained professionals help you determine which is the case by scheduling an assessment with us today.
